This place is breathtaking, and huge!! The wild life walked around the property every morning. The main house being three stories made it feel like each family had their own little air bnb. Will definitely be back!

A Small Elopment
I cannot say enough good things about John and my stay at the red cliff guest house. John was VERY accommodating to every single one of my requests with no hesitation. We held a small elopement at the property and it was absolutely perfect. Literally everything about it exceeded my expectations. We had 15 people staying at the property and about 30 people attended the ceremony and there was way more than enough room to host everybody. This property has SO much to offer. If you stay here and are bored for even a second of your stay it’s your fault lol. The views are incredible and we timed our stay PERFECT for all the fall colors. The wildlife is incredible. The stars are AMAZING. Highly recommend turning off all lights and just taking a seat on one of the many outdoor patios and just enjoying the stars. THE ELK! Kind of terrifying but woke up one morning to a bloodcurdling scream right outside my window and went outside and there was a herd of at LEAST 50 elk just walking through the property. They were HUGE….like…HUUUUGE!! much larger than the deer here in Oklahoma lol. There’s so much to do here. Some of our party went to the hot springs, some did the million dollar highway drive, the Durango silverton train, Mesa verde national park, purgatory resort, and some just hiked and explored the mountains on the property. I could literally go on and on and on but I’ll stop here. You will not have enough time to do all the things you want to do. We didn’t anyways lol. Thank you John for everything and helping make our stay perfect. We hope to visit again someday!

What a great place! We rented the Red Cliffs Guest Lodge for our entire family to stay for a Durango wedding. The two houses worked out perfectly and the views are amazing. We held the rehearsal there before the wedding, which was a great help. And, it’s less than 10 minutes from Durango Hot Springs! If you have a large group and want someplace special to stay this is the spot.

College Reunion
Stay here! Our group of seven came from seven different states for a college reunion, and we could not have selected a more ideal place to gather. We rented the main and guest houses – both equally charming and comfortable. 10 minutes to Durango – close enough to go to town but far enough to enjoy the pastures and mountains close by. John made check in and out easy, responded quickly to questions, and thought of everything down to hand soap in every bathroom! Best of all – the views from the decks and windows. We spent every evening on the main deck until well after sundown enjoying the scenery. We saw deer and even a turkey on the property. Lovely neighborhood for walking and close to hiking trails as well. We all said that we would love another visit to Durango and will stay at John’s place.

The house is beautiful and well-furnished. It is situated on a long private lane which affords much privacy and quiet. The views are wonderful with two excellent decks to relax on during the day and catch an amazing star-filled sky at night. Lots of room for you to spread out inside and out and enjoy your vacation!

Our week at Red Cliff Guest House was amazing! Spacious and beautiful, just outside of Durango, was a week of Heaven. This house is just amazing and the views are just breathtaking. I was able to fit all of my family members (16) into this home (guest house and house) very comfortably. I really do recommend this home if you are planning a family trip. It isn’t far from Durango, which is a plus side. This home is perfect if you are planning a family trip it has plenty of space to explore, hang out, and mingle with family members. John is also great in answering any type of questions you may have and giving you the important details upon your trip. We all had a great experience.

We Loved the Red Cliff House!!
The property and the views are the real stars of this rental. The house(s) is located right below the beautiful red cliffs just above Durango. With 7 acres you really feel like you are away from everyone but you are close enough to stores and town that it is really convenient. We saw turkey, chipmunks, beautiful deer, bats and birds all right from the porches The house itself is beautiful inside with plenty of room to hang out together or in the downstairs living room/game room. The smaller guest house was perfect for our multi family gathering and close enough to the big house. It has a full kitchen as well. John, the host is very responsive and a pleasure to work with.

One of the Cleanest I’ve Stayed In
Very responsive host. House was extremely clean. One of the cleanest I’ve stayed in. Plenty of room for our 7 adults 2 teens and 6 littles. House was well stocked with everything you need. More so than many rentals I’ve had. Grounds and location are amazing and fantastic. A good home base outside of town. Linens/mattress/pillow quality was tolerable but very basic.

Our Extended Family Gathering
Excellent stay for our extended family gathering of 15 people. Plenty of space for every family. The house is even better than the pictures. The kids had a blast exploring the property around the house, finding elk bones, the adults enjoyed relaxing on the decks or tucked away areas. Everything we needed in the kitchen. Close enough to Durango (15-20mins) but remote to enjoy the beautiful mountain setting. Check in was a breeze and John was very friendly and responsive. Highly recommend!!

Beautiful and Huge!
Absolutely beautiful and huge home(s) with spectacular views and total serenity. The multiple decks and pitch black skies make for amazing stargazing. The home is comfortable and beautiful with all the amenities you could need or want. John is great at communicating during booking and leading up to and during the stay as needed to ensure everything goes perfectly. It sits Just minutes from the Durango hot springs and a short walk down the main road to the Bar D Chuckwagon. We stayed on the entire property (both homes) with a large family group (11 adults, 7 children, and 1 infant) and had plenty of room to enjoy comfortably. The kids loved exploring and watching wildlife as well as the game room downstairs. It was also nice because at the end of our trip both homes have laundry facilities making laundry much quicker.
Only thing to note is that while the main home is fully air conditioned, the guest house is not, not a big deal if you have both homes or stay in the winter, but if you stay in the summer and only stay in the guest house, it gets very warm during the day. It does cool off fine as soon as the sun goes down.

We Will Be Back
This house was fantastic for our group of 8. The homes could easily accommodate a much larger group, comfortably. The kitchen was well appointed and the outdoor grill was very nice to have. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were fully stocked with all the essentials. Due to Covid precautions be sure to bring your own soaps, shampoos, conditioner, etc.. The views from the multiple balconies were spectacular and the home is situated away from all the other properties to give some very nice privacy. Couldn’t have asked for a better home to stay in and we’ll definitely return for future stays.

Stay here! The property is located outside of Durango with beautiful views of the Red Cliffs and surrounding mountain ranges. The house was warm and comfortable with space for our entire family. The kitchen is well appointed with plenty of dishes and kitchen equipment. We sat on the deck at night to stargaze and observed 3 planets and 7 shooting stars. Hiking up the hill in the back was wonderful as the views were incredible. We enjoyed a herd of elk walking through the property one morning, wild turkeys, and plenty of deer. We were closes to many hiking trails and enjoyed our trips to Durango along with the steam train ride. You will not be disappointed to stay here.

Red Cliff Was Wonderful.
The house is unique and well kept. There is plenty of space, great views, and the games in the basement were a hit with the kids! Evenings on the patio were a treat with the beautiful views and dark skies with many stars visible. Property management available yet unobtrusive, and check in and out could not have been easier. Beautiful home, and so many fun things to do in the area, or just drive anywhere nearby for the views!

Rented the Red Cliff Guest house with my golf buddies for 6 nights. John, the owner was great to work with. He was very prompt in getting back to me about my questions and working with me when COVID forced us to change our plans. He also had some great golf information. The house was huge, very clean and had more amenities than any other place we have rented (even a meat thermometer). It also had fantastic views with lots of wildlife around the house. The house is located about 30 seconds from the Bar D Chuck Wagon dinner show, which we all really enjoyed. Thanks again for a great stay, John. We would highly recommend this property and would definitely rent it again.

Family Vacation
The facility itself was perfect for our family. Everyone was pleased with the bedrooms, etc. Nice playroom downstairs that was cooler during the heat of the day. John was very accommodating with our pet situation and very attentive to making sure we had a good stay. The kitchen area in the guest house was a real bonus as the people who stayed there didn’t have to hoof it over to the main house for coffee, snacks, etc.
The only negative for us was there was no grass area for the kids to set up group sports like whiffle ball, badminton, etc. That was offset by the hiking up the hill and exploring for bones, etc. Plus the kitchen area got really hot in the late afternoon and when we were cooking. But I understand that most of the homes we have stayed at in Colorado are not air conditioned and I get that.
All-in-all we had a great time and can recommend this property.

Beautiful, Comfortable, and Accommodating
I don’t have one single bad thing to say about Red Cliff. The house was perfect for our size of group. It was clean, comfortable and has all the amenities we were looking for. The scenery in the area is amazing . John, the property owner is outstanding and really cares about his guests and making sure our stay was perfect. He made himself available in case we needed anything. I would recommend Red Cliff to anyone . It’s not far from the ski area which is a huge plus. Perfect Location — Roomy for our Large Group!
This was our second year in this house! We love it and will return. Great location between Durango and Pugatory ski resort. There are three family all with 2-3 teenage kids that stay in the second house while the adults stay in the main house. It is clean and roomy with beautiful views. I watched a deer walking through 2 feet of snow outside the bathroom window while I soaked in the huge bathtub. Worth the drive from Texas!

A Wonderful Place for a Family Reunion
We 4 sisters and our children and grandchildren, 14 people total from TN, CA, TX, and LA, had a fulfilling week (July 14-21, 2018) at Red Cliff Guest House, including the house behind the main house. We were all blown away by the beauty and spaciousness of the homes, as well as the impressive setting and views! We watched elk and wild turkeys stroll by, too. The homes were well-stocked with what we needed, just adding our food and drinks and occasional supplies. We were able to seat everyone for meals by using the 4 stools at the kitchen bar, too, and the open dining, living, and kitchen areas made it easy to all communicate. The 3 levels in the main house and having the extra house allowed for individual quiet time when needed. There is space we never used that would be great for a large gathering. I don’t think we have ever stayed in a place so well stocked for entertainment; the younger people loved having the game table! There is a handy gourmet market and a liquor store within a short drive, if you don’t get into Durango one day. And Durango and area have plenty of fun things to do, from taking the famous Durango-Silverton train ride, to relaxing at Trimble Hot Springs or Pagosa Springs, to rafting the Animas, to hiking, exploring historic Durango, or catching a dinner performance at the Bar D Chuckwagon Ranch very nearby. We also explored our family history at the Animas Museum and went to our grandparents’ (great or great-great grandparents’ for those younger) former home on East Park Ave. Red Cliff property manager John Ryan could not have been more helpful or accommodating. An all-round fabulous vacation spot!

This was the best place that we have stayed on a ski trip. It is hard to find a place to accommodate 3 families that include 8 teenagers. Awesome location and only minutes from Purgatory Ski Resort & Durango. There’s a grocery/liquor store just down the road 5 minutes away. The directions to the cabin and procedure to access the houses were precise & accurate – no issues accessing either house. We had a large group of 15 and everyone was very comfortable…plenty of room!! The kitchen in the main house was outstanding and well stocked with everything that you would need to cook for a large group. The kids really enjoyed the game room downstairs which made it very quiet & relaxing for the adults upstairs. Beds were very comfy and there were plenty of towels in the bathrooms along with plenty of hot water…don’t believe we ever ran out. John with the property management company was friendly, courteous, and most helpful during our stay. Overall…..a great find!! Very relaxing, quiet, and peaceful. I look forward to returning on our next ski vacation.

The Height of Luxury
It was in this spacious and luxuriously appointed home that I hosted a weekend birthday party for my husband. Using both the main house and the guest house we had ample room for 12 adults and 5 children.
All of our guests raved about how beautiful, clean and well equipped this site was. The game room was a big hit with the young adults; the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare and eat all of our meals right there.; the beds super comfortable and the laundry rooms were clean and well equipped. Since the dining room only seats 8, I was a little concerned about seating everyone but John set up tables and chairs in the adjacent room and we used the dining room table for a buffet table. It worked out perfectly.
While there may be homes having a similar standard of luxury, I’m sure there are none that are located in a spot as beautiful as this one. Situated high on a cliff, it overlooks a verdant valley and the mountains across from it. The house is built in such a way that every window and the multiple decks enable it’s guests to drink in the magnificent views. It is the most peaceful place imaginable. One’s desire for quiet will only be disturbed by the singing of the birds and the haunting sound of the whistle of the steam train as it travels through the valley.
Our grandchildren, four year old city boys, loved playing in the dirt under the deck and hiding out in the surrounding wooded area. When it was time to leave, they cried.
John, the property manager, was wonderful to work with. He tolerated my almost daily list of questions and responded immediately. He was so helpful in acquiring additional high chairs and cribs needed for the three infants.
Last but not least, we have rented homes in this area before for family gatherings but this was the first house in which we did not run out of water or have a serious plumbing problem. That is HUGE!

Spectacular Views
I have just recently returned from a most pleasant sojourn at the Red Cliff Guest House. We were most impressed by the physical presence of the mountains. The location was ideal for scouting this particularly attractive corner of Colorado. The house was most comfortable and snug and afforded all the modern conveniences. We were greeted each morning with the glorious site of the sun kissing the red cliffs on the west side of the valley and in the afternoon the sunsets on the red cliffs which abutted the back of the property. The location was perfect for access to nearby amenities both recreational and domestic. We were impressed at the restaurant variety in Durango as well the spectacular white mountains a short ride up the highway. We would certainly return and repeat our pleasant experience.

I’m in Love!!
My family had a FANTASTIC holiday at the Red Cliff Guest House. The property is gorgeous and the house very comfortable, well kept and beautifully decorated. As a Floridian I was delightfully surprised to find the floors were toasty warm under my feet when I got up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water! We felt RIGHT at home as soon as we walked in the door and everyone enjoyed the beautiful views out of each bedroom window. Access to everything you want to see and do in the area is very easy to navigate as well as hassle free directions to- and from the airport. I highly recommend the Red Cliff Guest House to anyone looking to visit the area. It was a wonderful holiday experience and I can’t wait to go back!

We spent the Christmas Holiday at the Red Cliff Guest House and enjoyed one of the best family vacations we have ever had. The property is gorgeous and close to many great spots. We were able to take the kids on a “Santa” sleigh ride and had a great time skiing at Durango Mountain Resort. We also enjoyed going into Durango — great restaurants and bars. The home itself was spacious, very clean and beautifully furnished. The pictures in the listing don’t do the property justice. Perfect Home for a Destination Wedding
We recently stayed at the Red Cliff House for our 20 year wedding vow renewals. We utilized one of the decks off the main house for the ceremony and it was breathtaking! The views of the snow covered mountains as a backdrop could not have been more gorgeous! We had all of our family and best friends stay on the property and between the main house and the guest house, we had more than ample room for all! In addition, the beautiful staircase in the main house was excellent for wedding photos! We could not have pulled off such an amazing ceremony without the ever present help of the property manager, John Ryan. He was a constant source of help in assuring the day was perfect for us! We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a vacation rental and we would definitely utilize the property again without any hesitation! Very pleased!

Second Great Stay
Visited with the family this trip. Our stay was planned at the last minute, but proved to be a perfect getaway with almost perfect timing for the fall aspen colors. Even when our flight got us there 5 hrs. late, John (Property Manager) was there to get us checked in and re-oriented to the property. The house was immaculate. We were so comfortable and again really felt at home. We enjoyed a couple new restaurants this trip. Although we heard deer, elk and bears were abundant in the valley, we only spied deer on the property this year. We threatened a winter return at our last visit, but will definitely try harder to get back early in 2013.

The Perfect Spot for a Wedding
The Red Cliff Guest House was the site for my daughter’s wedding in August, and we couldn’t have been more pleased. The two extended families of the bride and groom got to vacation while we attended the wedding. The cliffs and the panoramic views were the perfect backdrop for the ceremony, and we had the reception in a tent on the grounds. The lodge was spacious and everything was provided. John, the manager, went the “extra mile” to arrange for wedding parking and all the other small changes we wished to make to accommodate the wedding party. I highly recommend this property for any type of family get together.

Our Christmas in January
Our family had a Christmas in January get together planned and we wound up with 9 people in our group. We had a very wide age group from the late 50’s to pre-schoolers and the accommodations were perfect for everyone. Everyone had their own space for quiet times and the bedrooms were situated so that you could retire early if you wished and not be disturbed. The family areas( the kitchen and main living room) allowed for preparing meals with everyone close by and the dining area comfortably sat us all.
The lower level had a game room with an air hockey game (which got a great deal of use) and a foosball game along with a sectional couch, fireplace, and a flat screen TV. The property is convenient to downtown Durango, Trimble Hot Springs and the ski area at Durango Mountain Resort. The manager of the property was very helpful in getting us settled in and while we had no issues while we were there we felt confident that he would have done anything in his power to resolve any problems we might have had.

This Won’t Be Our Last Visit
Just to let you know what a delightful time we enjoyed at your Red Cliff home. I was originally attracted by the unique architecture but soon discovered that unique applies to the entire property. The unequalled views, the surprise visits by a doe and a bull elk, and even the echoing of the great country and western band from the Bar D Chuckwagon all added to the memories. I trust this will not be out last visit to Durango and, most especially, to Red Cliff.

A Wooded, High-sky Paradise!
We gazed up at dazzling blue adorned with luminous white clouds, looked across a ripe meadow to watch an old steam engine train chugging up the narrow gauge line. We thrilled to the bounty of birds and the sightings of elk and deer hardly fazed by our watching.
The main house is expansive yet intimate — no mean architectural feat! Everything you could want is — here inside and out. We’re so happy we came.

A 1st Tenant Experience
We had what turned into a great “first tenant” experience. My wife and I had the pleasure to host friends in Durango this past week at the Red Cliff Guest House. We were forewarned that we might find glitches in our stay since we were the first group in this new vacation rental — Not the case at all. We had only 1 glitch and that was with the Wi-Fi, but John (property manager) was on the phone with the technician and the issue was promptly resolved. The house was immaculate. I’m not sure the pictures on the web have done the house justice. The furnishings were new and very comfortable. The floor plan gave us all our own space and privacy to do what we desired. Large porches off the living room and the library (also a great art studio) made our morning coffee and evening happy hours wonderful experiences. Although we only cooked 4 meals there during our stay, the kitchen was fully equipped as advertised – better than any vacation rental any of us have experienced previously. Every detail seemed to be thought of. We loved the variety of activities and opportunities in the Durango area. Our group has already started talking about our return visit to Red Cliff Guest House this winter. This is a real jewel!!
